The Lion of Judah is a level of distinction conferred upon women who have made a minimum pledge of $5,000 to the Federation's Annual Campaign. These women are honored to wear the Lion pin, a symbol of their commitment to the Jewish people and their decision to live generously.
After all, a single gift can do so much for so many.
Lion of Judah Endowment
The Lion of Judah Endowment is an endowment component of the Lion of Judah Major Gifts program. A LOJE is created by establishing a minimum fund of $100,000 or more in the donor’s name, ensuring the perpetuation of a donor’s Lion of Judah level annual campaign gift.
LOJE is powerful statement of a donor’s commitment to tzedakah, providing a legacy for herself, her family and her community. Establishing a LOJE allows women the opportunity to the extra step to endow her gift in perpetuity. We gratefully acknowledge the women who have made this commitment here in New Orleans:

Lion of Judah Annual Luncheon welcomes Shoshana Cardin
On Thursday, March 19, Susan Hess welcomed into her home the Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans’ 2009 Annual Lion of Judah Inter-Generational Luncheon. The event was co-chaired by Vivian Cahn and Julie Wise Oreck. The event was partially underwritten by the Rosalie Cohen Tehiya Renaissance Fund.
Nearly 45 attendees heard Shoshana Cardin speak. They were captivated by her wit and knowledge.
"Shoshana is a Lioness in every way, and it took a while to get her down here, but she was well worth the wait," said event co-chair Vivian Cahn. "Shoshana’s speech was straightforward and intelligent, born of a lifetime of experience and wisdom. She believes these to be very perilous times—both for Americans and Jews—and her speech emphasized strengthening our communities and continuing our obligation of tikkun olam."
Shoshana Cardin has devoted numerous years to Jewish causes. Shoshana was Chairman of Shoshana S. Cardin High School in Baltimore, MD from 2003-2007 and currently serves on their Board of Trustees. She is an Honorary Chairman for CLAL-The Center for Leadership and Learning and serves on the Executive Committee of JTA-The Global News Service of the Jewish People. Shoshana is a member of United Jewish Communities’ Board of Trustees and also serves as a board member for the Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore. Shoshana was inducted into the Baltimore Jewish Hall of Fame in June 2008.
The Lions of Judah generously donate a minimum of $5,000 each year to the Federation’s Annual Campaign. If you are interested in joining this proud pride, please contact Sherri Tarr, Development Director, at 504-780-5609.
