Jewish Federations of North America applaud The House Appropriations Subcommittee on State Department and Foreign Operations for advancing a significant increase of $1 million to the budget of the State Department’s Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, raising the budget of the office to $2.5 million.

The following statement was issued by SVP of Public Affairs at Jewish Federations of North America Elana Broitman:

"With antisemitism surging across the globe, the additional funds for which we advocated will increase the Special Envoy's capacity to ensure we are leveraging all of our diplomatic tools to help improve the safety and security of at-risk Jewish communities and hold world leaders to account. Jewish Federations are grateful to see Congress taking this issue seriously and providing the necessary support to keep fighting the oldest hatred."

We hope this increased funding will support the addition of permanent staff in the office, among other important provisions, and we urge the full house and senate to pass this funding level for this office.

Jewish Federations have also worked closely with the administration in advancing critical measures to combat antisemitism on the local, state and federal levels. In May, Jewish Federations applauded the White House's new plan to combat antisemitism.
